You are standing in front of one of our recycled water tanks

This water has already been used once.

It comes from municipal wastewater treated at the wastewater treatment plant. Rather than flowing all the way to the river, some of this water is diverted at the Water Hub and undergoes advanced treatment so that it can be reused for certain purposes.

The water you see in these tanks is therefore recycled water, ready to be put back into service.

The Journey of Recycled Water

1. TreatMunicipal wastewater is first treated at the treatment plant before being discharged into the river.2. Intercept Some of this water is collected and directed to the Carrefour de l’eau facilities.3. Treat againAdvanced treatment processes produce water suitable for uses that do not require potable water.4. StoreRecycled water is stored in the tanks at the Carrefour de l’eau. The ones you see here each have a capacity of 680 gallons.5. ReuseThe water can then be used for various purposes, including street cleaning, certain industrial applications, and public restrooms.

Why is this important?

A Protected Ecosystem

Water reuse makes it possible to recover a portion of municipal wastewater rather than treating it solely as a discharge into the natural environment. It thus contributes to more responsible management of this resource.

Preserving drinking water for those who truly need it

Street washing, cleaning, and certain industrial uses do not require water intended for consumption. Using recycled water for these purposes helps reduce the volume of drinking water collected, treated, and distributed by municipalities.

Greater security of supply

By diversifying the water sources available for certain uses, water reuse helps reduce the strain on rivers and aquifers and strengthens communities’ resilience in the face of changing needs.

Responsible Consumption

By using recycled water for certain purposes, we can reduce the demand for drinking water and, in some cases, limit the need for its collection, treatment, and distribution.

Proof that a “wasted” resource can become a valuable resource

This is the circular economy applied to water: water that would otherwise have continued on its way into the natural environment can be treated again and put to a new use.

A platform to accelerate innovation

The launch of our technology showcase allows us to demonstrate the effectiveness of these processes under real-world conditions, promoting their adoption by industrial partners and stimulating investment in sustainable solutions.

For a long time, our model was relatively linear.
Water recycling is moving us toward a circular model:

Use → process → reuse → process again → reuse
